Racing Club strengthened itself this Tuesday in Chile and defeated, in a solid performance, 2-0 against Huachipato, in the first leg of the round of 16 of the CONMEBOL Sudamericana.
Adrián ‘Maravilla’ Martínez opened the scoring in the 32nd minute after a very good assist from Colombian Johan Carbonero.
In the 89th minute, Juanfer Quintero sealed the victory with a penalty goal. The play for which the referee awarded the penalty was a perfect counterattack down the central lane that ended with Maravilla Martínez one-on-one with Cerda Valdés. The goalkeeper committed a clear foul, and despite this, the referee took several minutes to review the play on VAR.
Racing had a good performance in all its lines and only managed to secure the victory in the 89th due to ineffectiveness in finishing its dangerous actions.
The moment of greatest dominance came in the middle of the second half when La Academia besieged the local goal. In the 68th minute, after a quick play down the left, Gabriel Rojas sent a low cross and the clearance by Benjamín Gazzolo hit the right post. In the 70th minute, another play down the left generated a central rebound that, from outside the box, Agustín Almendra connected with a beautiful volley that smashed the crossbar.
