The threat of terrorism remains high in Sweden
STOCKHOLM, August 14. /TASS/. The threat level of terrorism in Sweden remains high. Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer stated this at a press conference.
“The terrorist threat level remains high, although the threat picture is slightly different. Sweden is no longer a propaganda center for extremist fighters,” he said.
The minister explained that there were three parallel sources of threats to Sweden’s internal security. These are terrorism and violent extremism, state actors hostile to the kingdom, and criminality that threatens the system.
The conflict in the Middle East could be a threat to the West and to Sweden as well, as explained by Fredrik Hallström, head of the operation of the Security Police (Sepo). “Sweden can be a platform for conflicts in other countries,” he believes.
Last summer, the terrorist threat level in Sweden was raised to four points out of five. The reason was statements from terrorist organizations, including the Islamic State* and Al-Qaeda**, which designated Sweden as a “priority target” after some burning of the Koran.
