The City Hall has lots of eggs: 1,800 laying hens are delivered to 180 families in Álvaro Obregón

As part of the program “Sustainable Food 2024“, the mayor of Alvaro Obregon, Lia Lemondelivered 1,800 hens posture to 180 families from various neighborhoods such as San Bartolo Ameyalco, Lomas de la Era and Santa Rosa Xochiac.

In this regard, the mayor reported that this program was requested directly by the residents, for the benefit of their food and their economy, given the increase in prices of the basic basket.

The beneficiary families received 10 23-week-old Rhode Island Red laying hens, ready to lay eggs, a cage equipped with feeders and waterers, as well as a month’s supply of food.

They also received training on the care and maintenance of their chickens, to keep them in good condition for production.

The mayor stressed that each family will be able to have 2,000 to 3,000 eggs per year, which is equivalent to approximately 187 kilos annually.

“This social action directly benefits the diet and economy of families, because they have one of the most important basic food items on hand, and they can also sell the surplus to their neighbors or at street markets,” said the mayor.
