Argentine Mauricio Pochettino has everything agreed to be the new coach of the United States national team, a team that already has its place secured in the 2026 World Cup as one of the organizers along with Mexico and Canada.
According to various European media, Pochettino has agreed to become the new coach of the United States national team, with the guarantee of leading the team in the next World Cup. The North American federation had sounded out several coaches, but it was Pochettino who accepted the offer and will take charge of the team.
Pochettino’s last experience as a coach was at Chelsea in England, a team he led during the 2023/24 season. After a poor campaign, in which he finished sixth in the Premier League with 63 points, it was decided to terminate his contract by “mutual agreement.”
This will be the first experience as a coach of a national team for the Murphy, Santa Fe native, who has already managed Espanyol (2009 to 2012), Southampton (2013 to 2014), Tottenham (2014 to 2020), Paris Saint-Germain (2020 to 2022) and Chelsea (2023 to 2024). It was precisely during his time at PSG, where he managed Lionel Messi, that he won his only titles as a coach: the 2020 French Super Cup, the 2021 French Cup and the 2022 Ligue One.
