What to do before the drill?

Organized by the National Institute of Civil Defense (Indeci), the drill aims to prepare the general population for emergency situations. This drill is held in commemoration of the devastating earthquake of August 15, 2007, which affected the region of Ica, causing 595 deaths, 2,291 injuries, more than 76,000 destroyed homes, and 431,000 affected individuals.

  • Prepare your emergency backpack: Include non-perishable food, water, first aid supplies, flashlight, battery-operated radio, and clothing.

  • Locate safe zones: Define safe zones in your home and find out the evacuation sectors in your community.
  • Develop a family emergency plan: Organize responsibilities and establish meeting points for your family in case the earthquake occurs while you are away from home.
