During this meeting, Mr. Víctor Francos and Ms. Karima Benyaich highlighted the good relations between the two countries and discussed aspects related to this joint candidacy, which unites two continents.

The Spanish official and the diplomat noted on this occasion that “the union of the three countries increases tenfold the potential of the candidacy.”

This bid would allow, for the first time, a men’s World Cup to be organised jointly on two continents, both parties noted.

HM King Mohammed VI announced Morocco’s joint candidacy, with Spain and Portugal, to host the 2030 World Cup, on March 14 in Kigali, in a message on the occasion of the presentation of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Excellence Award for the year 2022 (CAF President’s Outstanding Achievement Award-2022).

This joint candidacy, unprecedented in the history of football, will be that of the junction between Africa and Europe, between the north and the south of the Mediterranean and between the African, Arab and Euro-Mediterranean worlds, noted the Sovereign.

HM the King also specified that this candidacy would be one of bringing together the best of both sides, and demonstrating an alliance of genius, creativity, experience and resources.
