A senior official at the Blue House explained in a phone call with the Dong-a Ilbo on the 16th, “Chief of Staff to the President Chung Jin-seok said, based on reports from relevant ministries, ‘It has now reached the point where we can recommend wearing masks,’” and “Just as President Yoon Seok-yeol has repeatedly ordered preemptive measures against the spread of COVID-19, we plan to make every effort to secure additional treatments.” Spokesperson for the Blue House Chung Hye-jeon reported that President Yoon had previously urged Prime Minister Han Duck-soo to “quickly pursue measures so that the public will not feel anxious” during a weekly meeting on the 12th due to the resurgence of COVID-19.
The Office of the President is said to have pointed out the problem of budget waste in relation to the fact that vaccines purchased by the previous government have expired along with the COVID-19 pandemic and have been discarded. An official from the Office of the President said, “We understand that there are currently 30,000 doses of treatment remaining. We understand that an additional 260,000 doses have been ordered using the available budget.”
In addition, the Office of the President plans to instruct relevant ministries to announce measures to strengthen quarantine and preemptive response in places vulnerable to disease viruses, such as nursing homes.
