Former police officers must pay a fine of 28,000 euros for the illegal use of state resources for the construction of a BMX track /

The former head of the Transport Repair, Supply and Operation Department of the State Police, Māris Rumps, the former head of the Material, Technical and Property Supply Office of the State Police, Armands Možeiko, and former policeman Pēteris Veličko were found guilty and fined.

Mojeiko fully admitted his guilt and agreed with the prosecutor on the penalty – 17,000 euros.

Mojeiko’s former subordinates, Rumps and Velichko, had pleaded not guilty. The court found them guilty and sentenced them to a fine of 5,500 euros each.

LETA already reported that the Internal Security Bureau (IDB) detained the then policemen in 2019.

According to the indictment, between May and December 2018, Mojeiko used police resources during the construction and creation of the Kadaga BMX track. Used police vehicles, fuel, as well as the work force of three drivers. In addition, both the policeman himself and the drivers used to be on the BMX track during their work.

The alleged crime was supported by Rumps and Veličko.

In total, 16,860 euros in damages were caused to the police.
