New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested four people in connection with a fraud of Rs 400 crore through online betting and gaming apps. The AJC gave this information on Friday. According to the agency, Chinese citizens were allegedly running these apps in connivance with some Indians. The federal investigation agency said in a statement that Arun Sahu, Alok Sahu, Chetan Prakash and Joseph Stalin have been detained under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
Fraud results from the Fewin app
According to the agency, these arrests have been made in connection with an app named ‘Fewin’. This money laundering case has come to light in connection with an FIR lodged at Kosipur police station in Kolkata against some people for cheating and conspiring to cheat a large number of online gamers through the app. According to the statement, “Amount of Rs 400 crore was raised through the Fewin app fraud. After that it was deposited in eight Binance (global crypto exchange) wallets in the name of Chinese citizens.

Apps were being operated from China
The statement said that after examining the “IP logs”, it was revealed that these apps were being operated from China. ED said, “Chinese citizens used to contact these four accused through some specific groups on Telegram and give instructions.” The agency said that since these four accused played an active role in the fraud scam through the Fevin app and they were found involved in the crime of money laundering, they were arrested.

14 days judicial custody
Although the ED did not say when these people were arrested, the special PMLA court in Kolkata sent all four to ED custody for 14 days. The ED said that during the investigation it was found that Chinese citizens were running this app with the help and support of Indian citizens.
