The fight for a place in the elimination tournament in group H ended already on the first day of the tournament, when the German beach volleyball players had to withdraw due to injury against the Latvians, who went home with three technical losses. The intrigue remained in the fight for victory in the group, so that the elimination tournament could start immediately from the second round, or round of 16. Pļaviņš and Fokerot started the match against the nominally strongest opponents Timo Hammarberg and Filip Waller on Thursday, but after losing the first set they bounced back and won the decisive set after losing the match point. In it, the Latvian duo first took a two-point advantage, but by winning three games in a row in the end, they earned their second success in the tournament (15:19, 21:13, 19:17).
The last game was also in the swing of performance, where against the Swiss Marco Kratiger and Florian Brehr, an unsuccessful ending cost the first set and left an impression on the beginning of the second as well. They managed to overcome the three-point deficit and won quite convincingly in three sets (19:21, 21:19, 15:12). The two-time European champions Tina Graudiņa and Anastasija Samoilova also won all three games of the group tournament. They will play against the legendary the German Laura Ludwig and her partner Luisa Lipman. In the previous round, the opponents of the Latvian subgroup beat the home team Brecht Piersma and Vīsa Bekhuis with 21:16, 21:19. The next opponents of Pļaviņas/Fokerot will be known after the round of 16 matches on Friday morning.
