Handball: Iraq ties with Saudi Arabia and qualifies for the main round of the Asian Championship

/ The Iraqi handball team qualified today, Monday, for the main round of the 21st Asian Championship hosted by Bahrain, while the head of the federation revealed raising the ceiling of ambitions in the championship.

The head of the Iraqi Handball Federation, Ahmed Riyadh, said in an interview with Agency, “The Iraqi national team managed to tie with the Saudi national team with a score of 31 goals each in the match that took place this evening within the Asian Men’s Handball Championship.”

He pointed out that “the impressive results achieved by the hands of the Iraqi handball champions are a distinguished achievement, especially since they were able to compete with the strongest Asian teams with merit.”

He added, “The national team was able to secure its qualification after its draw today with the Saudi national team for the main round of the Asian Championship,” indicating that “our ambitions have become higher in light of what the Iraqi handball champions have presented, and we hope that our players will achieve better results in the upcoming matches to prove their worthiness.”

He pointed out that “the technical committee supervising the tournament chose the Iraqi national team player Badr Al-Din Hamoudi as the star of the match and the best player between the two competing teams.”

The Iraqi handball team tied with its Japanese counterpart, the day before yesterday, Saturday, with a score of 28 goals each, and also won its first match in the same tournament against its Indian counterpart with a crushing score of 55-12 goals.
