BMW to recall 1.4 million cars in China due to airbag problems / Day

by times news cr

The regulator says cars that have had their steering wheels replaced may have defective air bags made by Japan’s Takata Corporation, which can rupture and cause debris to spread, potentially injuring passengers.

This problem affects cars manufactured between 2003 and 2017. Nearly 600,000 domestically produced cars and about 760,000 imported vehicles will be recalled.

BMW already recalled nearly 400,000 cars in the US in July for the same reason.

Since 2013, Takata has been embroiled in a major international scandal related to defective airbag inflator mechanisms that can cause airbags to inflate with excessive force, causing them to explode and cause potentially fatal debris to spread throughout the car.

Almost every major car manufacturer in the world has been forced to recall cars to replace the defective airbags.
