Another strong blow to international drug trafficking and arms trafficking was dealt thanks to a successful operation by the National Navy.
“We have reached a new record for the longest distance traveled in a seizure: 1,004 nautical miles (1,859 km) from our coasts,” said the President of the Republic, Nayib Bukele.
In the last 90 days, the National Navy has seized 9.3 tons of cocaine on the high seas, valued at 233 million dollars. “This time, a large quantity of war weapons was also seized that were going from Mexico to Ecuador,” the president added.
The procedure was carried out on August 6, 500 nautical miles southwest of Bocana El Cordoncillo, Estero de Jaltepeque, where it intercepted a Mexican vessel with three Guatemalans.
The suspects tried to flee and set fire to the boat. They confessed that they were planning to pick up drugs further south, and with this information, we quickly moved to the area where they would receive the drugs.
