The Corsican polyphony stars in the final concert of the Kerasovo Festival, which will take place tomorrow Thursday in the central square of the village of Agia Paraskevi in Konitsa.

Special guests of the evening are the polyphonic ensemble A STONDA (=the moment), who will take the audience on a journey to the song cantu in paghjella. The male polyphonic ensemble, which consists of Alexandre Alfonsi, Patrick Santa Maria, Etienne Orsini, Dumè Salviani and has been singing with this composition for over ten years, is committed to the dissemination and development of this particular tradition. Corsican polyphony is transmitted through oral tradition, sung a cappella traditionally by men and registered in the Unesco repertoire of intangible cultural heritage. It is a repertoire both popular and ecclesiastical.
Corsican polyphony will be rewarded with the traditional sounds of continental polyphony, thanks to the Pogonisi Polyphonic Song Association (Thanasis Viltaniotis, Ioanna Zotou, Christos Gogos, Costas Lolis, Athanasia Kalogirou, Fotini Rammou, Ria Gouva, Pantelis Diamantis, Sotiris Dessis, Ilianna Tsioni and Efi Zavogianni ), who will sing on the same day. Also, the artistic director of the Festival, singer and composer Xanthoula Dakovanou and the group of students from the polyphonic singing seminar, which took place within the framework of the Festival, from August 3 to 8, will also participate in the concert. The group will sing Georgian, Greek and Corsican polyphony!
Finally, the dancer-choreographer and musician Taxiarchis Vasilakos will dance with modern techniques a traditional Epirotian dirge, arranged by Xanthoula Dakovanou and performed by the students of the polyphonic seminar. Taxiarchis Vasilakos studies the relationship between dance and music, with the collective and personal roots of man, and especially with Greek traditional culture. Since 2018, he has been researching Georgian dances within the “Caucasus” dance ensemble of the Georgian community of the same name in Athens. All these influences are reflected in his work.
The Kerasovo 2024 festival is co-organized by the MOUSA team and the Municipality of Konitsa with the support and patronage of the Ministry of Culture. Supported by the Region of Epirus, Agia Paraskevi Common Agricultural Horticulture Cooperative, Kotopoulas Pindos, Nikolopoulos Supermarket, Brotherhood of Kerasovites of Athens “To Kerasovo”.
