In this town, a nearby field has been set up to accommodate students from the Le Grand Atlas high school, which was completely destroyed by the earthquake, to allow classes to resume and to provide psychological support to students following this natural disaster.

200 tents were installed as part of this operation, said Mohamed Zerrouki, provincial director of National Education, Preschool and Sports in Al Haouz, adding that “mobile units” will also be set up for this purpose.

Mr. Zerrouki stressed, in a statement to MAP, that the supervisory ministry took several measures following the Al Haouz earthquake, in order to ensure the resumption of classes, after their temporary suspension due to this natural disaster.

He said that the field visits identified 242 educational institutions affected by the earthquake, 33 of which were completely destroyed.

Mr. Zerrouki further indicated that hundreds of students have been transferred to schools where they will also benefit from adequate educational and psychological support.

For his part, Mohamed Id Abbou, director of the Grand Atlas high school, indicated that the land near the commune of Asni has been transformed into a temporary high school comprising 32 tents intended to accommodate students in the best possible conditions.

“Today we are welcoming 1,686 middle school students and 1,200 high school students,” said Mr. Id Abbou, highlighting the great mobilization of the teaching staff.

A timetable adapted to these circumstances will be established so that students can continue their studies and thus overcome the psychological impact of the natural disaster, noted Khalid Tizola, a teacher at the Le Grand Atlas high school.

For their part, several students expressed their joy at being able to resume their studies so soon after the earthquake.

Zahra Id Abdellah, a baccalaureate student, said she was “happy to be back in class.”

“The atmosphere is certainly different from the normal framework of studies, but we are aware that this is an exceptional and temporary situation which requires patience,” she added.
