Actress Kim Min-hee (42, pictured) won the Best Acting Award for her role in director Hong Sang-soo’s new film ‘Suyucheon’ at the Locarno International Film Festival.
Kim Min-hee, who was named one of the winners of the Best Acting Award in the International Competition section at the 77th Locarno International Film Festival held on the 17th (local time), said, “Director Hong Sang-soo, who created such beautiful films, I love your films so much. Thank you for letting me work with you.” A photo of Kim Min-hee holding Director Hong’s hand was also released after receiving the award. Since last year, the Locarno Film Festival has changed the Best Actor and Best Actress awards to be gender-neutral, awarding the Best Acting Awards to two actors.
Another Best Acting award that day went to four actors for the Lithuanian-Latvian co-production “Dry Drowning.” The Golden Leopard, the top prize in the international competition, went to Lithuanian director Saule Blyubaite’s debut film “Toxic.”
The Locarno International Film Festival, held every August in the southern Swiss resort city of Locarno, is one of the world’s top six film festivals, and mainly showcases artistic and experimental auteur films. Director Hong won the Golden Leopard Award in the international competition section of the festival for “Right Now, Wrong Then” (2015), and in 2013, he won the Best Director Award for the film “Our Sunhi” (2013). Actors Ki Joo-bong and Jung Jae-young have won the Best Actor Award in the past.
