Kilometer-long queues of passenger cars formed this afternoon in the area of the Danube Bridge border checkpoint near Ruse, BTA reported.
Cars are waiting on “Bulgaria” and “Tutrakan” boulevards to enter the border crossing. The crossing time is about an hour. Police teams regulate the traffic, which is very difficult. Traffic is expected to be extremely heavy late this evening.
There was also a queue of trucks outside the border area. The remaining heavy goods vehicles are in the buffer parking lot, and the time spent there is about 15 hours.
For the last 24 hours, a total of 1391 trucks have passed through the facility in both directions. Of these, 774 entered Bulgaria, and 617 left the country, the border post reported.
Due to the extremely intense traffic, the border authorities advise citizens, if possible, to travel in the direction of Romania outside the busiest interval, which is between 12:00 and 21:00.
On July 10 of this year, the beginning of the major repair of the Bulgarian section of the 70-year-old facility was launched. For this reason, in the overpass part of the bridge, traffic for 200 meters is carried out in only one lane. Employees of the “Border Police” regulate the movement of vehicles in the area of construction and installation activities.
Border officials are urging motorists to obey the no-pass on the bridge facility and obey the orders of traffic officials.
