Power Outage Affects Thousands in Fricktal: Technical Defect Identified

On Wednesday at 11:15 PM, Alertswiss reported that there had been a power outage in the Fricktal region. The affected municipalities were Möhlin, Rheinfelden, Wallbach, Zeiningen, Arisdorf (BL), Magden, and Olsberg. Shortly after 12:30 AM on Thursday morning, Alertswiss issued an all-clear. The power supply was said to be restored, according to the federal government.

Technical Defect at Axpo

The electricity provider for this region is AEW Energie AG. On their website, it states that the power outage began on Wednesday at 10:54 PM and lasted just over an hour. According to AEW, the power interruption was resolved by 12:15 AM. The company regrets the interruption and asks affected customers for their understanding. Around 4000 households were impacted by the power outage.

In response to inquiries, AEW announced that the fault lay in the upstream network, which is provided by Axpo. This network no longer supplied any power. Axpo, in a statement to ArgoviaToday, referred to a technical defect that lasted about 40 minutes.

Open-Air Cinema Without Power

As reported by the “Neue Fricktaler Zeitung”, the open-air cinema in Rheinfelden, located on the premises of the Feldschlösschen Brewery, was also affected by the power outage. The film screening on Thursday evening had to be interrupted.
