(ANSA) – ROME, 17 AUGUST – Forza Italia reiterates its openness to ius scholae, the possibility of recognising citizenship to foreign minors who are in Italy if they have completed one or more school cycles, which has become topical again after the Paris Olympics. And it announces that at the beginning of September it will begin to discuss and work to define a proposed law. For Paolo Emilio Russo, Forza Italia group leader in the Constitutional Affairs Committee of the Chamber, “there are urgent laws, then there are others that are – more simply – right. A citizenship reform that allows us to recognise before the age of majority and with better rights and protections for our children’s schoolmates after they have completed their school cycle, is undoubtedly right”. Then he adds: “Secretary Antonio Tajani and the Forza Italia group leaders have already called a meeting with the FI departments for the beginning of September to discuss and write our own text, which will be along the lines of those presented in the last legislature. This has nothing to do with illegal immigration. On the contrary”. At the same time, FI reiterates its ‘limits’ for the implementation of the differentiated autonomy reform. “The law is the law and is applied according to what is written, and therefore first the Lep (Essential Levels of Performance, ed.) – remarks Raffaele Nevi, spokesperson for FI – recalling that his party “will monitor through the observatory established by Tajani, so that the law is not distorted” and that for non-Lep matters, what counts first of all is “the impact assessment and guarantee of not jeopardizing national unity. If this is not done, FI will not vote in favor in Parliament and nothing will be done”, he concludes. (ANSA).
