In a statement to the press following a meeting with the Authority responsible for the revision of the Family Code, Mr. Chami stressed the importance of a broad, responsible and transparent debate to encourage the support of all stakeholders in the project of reforming the Family Code.
The EESC, whenever it addresses social issues in the context of its work, in particular those relating to the contribution of women to the economy and the well-being of children, finds that most of the problems which arise are linked to the provisions of the Family Code or to their implementation, noted Mr Chami.
He also expressed the hope that the participatory approach adopted by the Authority would give rise to constructive and responsible discussions for the amendment of the Family Code, taking into account its impact on women, children and family cohesion.
The meeting of the Authority responsible for the revision of the Family Code with the President of the EESC is part of a series of consultations and hearings with the various stakeholders concerned as part of the implementation of the content of the Royal Letter addressed to the Head of Government on the subject of the revision of the Family Code.
In the Royal Letter addressed to the Head of Government, HM King Mohammed VI stressed the need to review the Family Code, which had the immense advantage of driving a virtuous dynamic of change and establishing a new conception of equality and family balance, thus paving the way for considerable social progress, in order to correct the dysfunctions and shortcomings that the experience of its judicial implementation has revealed.
The Sovereign also insisted that the provisions of the Family Code “must also be brought into line with the evolution of Moroccan society and the needs of sustainable development”, noting that “the new version will thus be in line with the progress of our national legislation”.
