Kabul: The Taliban, which occupies Afghanistan, has sent the first shipment to China through Chabahar port. This shipment was loaded with Afghan minerals. The Deputy Chief of Ports and Economic Affairs in the Taliban-ruled government said that about 12 trucks carrying Afghan minerals from Nimroz have been sent to China. It was sent to Chabahar via Iran’s Sistan province. India also operates a part of the Chabahar port. Its goal is to increase India’s trade with Central Asia, Afghanistan and Eastern Europe.
Afghan businessmen praised
Officials associated with the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment have said that Chabahar port can be the lifeline of their country. This will reduce their dependence on Pakistan. This port will facilitate the export of Afghan goods from Afghanistan to European countries and India. Khan Jan Alokozay, a member of the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Commerce and Investment, said, “12 trucks of minerals departing from Nimroz reached Chabahar, from where they were loaded on a ship for China. This is a happy event for Afghanistan and we should continue to use this route.”
Demand to increase the use of Chabahar
He also said that the technical issues surrounding Chabahar, including transportation, security, technology and shipping, as well as money transfer challenges, must be resolved. Some traders say that the cost of sea freight is low, and the necessary facilities should be provided at the Chabahar port to speed up the export of goods to regional and global markets.
Will Chabahar become a boon for Afghanistan?
Chabahar Port is one of the most important sea ports for trade. Afghanistan can use this port to export its goods to countries such as China, India, Bangladesh, Turkey, and through Turkey to European countries. According to some experts, challenges in trade with Pakistan, such as increased customs duty on fresh fruits and vegetables, the requirement of visas, passports and temporary entry permits for Afghan drivers, and recent incidents such as the closure of Pakistani border checkpoints for Afghan cargo trucks, have increased the dependence of Afghan traders on Chabahar Port for goods exports.
