The president of the Court of Justice of Oaxaca, Berenice Jiménezordered to investigate the judge which acquitted the aggressor of Maria Elena Rios.

It is worth remembering that yesterday August 14th the judge Jose Gabriel Ramirez Montano issued the verdict in which he acquitted Juan Antonio Vera Carrizal -alleged mastermind of the acid attack on the saxophonist in 2019-.

However, Berenice Ramírez Jiménez -president of the Superior Court of Justice of the State of Oaxacaa- issued a statement in which it openly expressed its disagreement with Judge Montaño’s ruling in relation to the Elena Ríos case.

“I do not agree with the ruling. I am an institutional woman who respects judicial autonomy. However, the dubious conduct of those involved will be thoroughly investigated and they will be punished with the full weight of the law, no matter who is responsible,” said the president of the Court.

The above is because “it leaves a victim of violence unprotected and shows obvious and unsustainable inconsistencies.”

For this reason, Berenice Jiménez ordered the General Clothing of the institution to open an investigation to establish administrative and criminal responsibilities against José Gabriel Ramírez (judge in the matter of the Trial Court of the Judicial Circuit of the Mixteca) for alleged acts of corruption in the performance of their duties and illicit conduct.

The Court holds that at the various stages of the process, the Judicial Branch of Oaxaca “acted in accordance with the law and due process, taking into account the gender perspective, and both sides of the case were heard.”

For the time being, Carrizal will not be able to leave the prison where he is being held, since the substitute judge of the Trial Court of the Judicial Circuit of the Mixteca, Maria Antonia Estevanotified that the release order issued by Judge Montaño was void.
