The Electoral Tribunal of Mexico City (TECDMX) revoked an agreement issued by the electoral counselors, for not properly assessing a complaint by political violence on the basis of gender against the former candidate of Morena to the mayor’s office of Cuauhtémoc, Catalina Monreal, committed by his adversary, Alessandra Rojo de la Vega.
In public session, the magistrates of the TECDMX ordered the Complaints Commission of the Electoral Institute of Mexico City (IECM) enter the case, since it had been dismissed and not reviewed thoroughly.
The project was prepared by magistrate Osiris Vázquez, who considered that the members of this commission should have assessed whether it was a case of violence against the Morena member and not an attack on the freedom of expression of the now elected mayor of Cuauhtémoc, which is why they dismissed the complaint.
The project was approved with a casting vote from the presiding magistrate of the TECDMX, Armando Ambriz, in addition to the vote in favor of the rapporteur, Osiris Vazquez, and with two against the judges Maria Antonieta Gonzalez and Juan Carlos Sanchez Leon.
