The pension fund is facing a financing problem. The CDU therefore wants to significantly raise the retirement age – it should be linked to life expectancy.

If the CDU takes over the government, it will quickly consider raising the retirement age. “The government program – as well as the basic program – will have to state that we are adjusting the standard retirement age to life expectancy,” said the chairwoman of the CDU’s Mittelstand association MIT, Gitta Connemann, to the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung”.

“If we are in government, we will have to decide on this coupling in the next legislative period.” The possibility for long-term insured persons to retire two years earlier must also be eliminated.

According to the information, Connemann decided not to run for the party presidency in the spring. In return, she was assured that she would be closely involved in the development of the government program.

On Monday, the heads of the associations are to meet with the party presidium, including the MIT and the social committees (CDA) under their outgoing chairman Karl-Josef Laumann. There is “no disagreement with the social committees” on the basic issues of pension policy, stressed Connemann. “If we do not keep the system stable, those who are solely dependent on the statutory pension will suffer the most.”

The MIT chairwoman rejects a German pension based on shares, modeled on the billion-dollar Norwegian sovereign wealth fund. “The Norwegians have been investing huge surplus proceeds from natural resources for decades,” Connemann told the newspaper.

“We can’t just catch up in a few years to pay the pensions of the baby boomers. That’s unrealistic.” It’s now a matter of strengthening funded pensions. This includes company pensions and the Riester pension.

Currently, the age limit is increasing by two months each year until the standard retirement age reaches 67 in 2031. Federal Labor Minister Hubertus Heil (SPD) rejects a higher age limit.
