Meeting in ordinary session, the General Conference, the highest decision-making body of ALESCO and which includes 22 member countries, adopted a decision highlighting the Sovereign’s constant support for the resistance of the Palestinian people.

The General Conference also highlighted the field work carried out by the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Acharif Agency, the executive arm of the Al-Quds Committee, under the personal and effective supervision of His Majesty the King.

Speaking on this occasion, Mr. Ali Abou Zouhri, member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization and Chairman of the Palestinian National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, expressed his country’s deep appreciation for His Majesty King Mohammed VI and the efforts that the Sovereign continues to deploy, particularly in the defense of Al-Quds Al-Sharif and His support for the Maqdessis and institutions of the holy city, the first Qibla and the third Holy Site of Islam.

In this context, he called on Arab countries to follow the example of the Kingdoms of Morocco and Jordan, as well as the Gulf Arab states in supporting Al-Quds in the first place.

For his part, the Secretary General of the Ministry of National Education, Preschool and Sports, Youssef Belqasmi, stressed that the Kingdom spares no effort, under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, in favor of the Palestinian cause and the protection of the holy places of Islam in Palestine.

Mr. Belqasmi, who leads the Moroccan delegation to this conference, also emphasized the all-out efforts made by the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Al-Sharif Agency under the leadership of the Sovereign, recalling the implementation of development projects for the benefit of the population of Al Quds and support for its resistance by launching, in 2021, a large number of initiatives in favor of the Maqdessis.

Among these initiatives, the official cited the granting of about thirty scholarships to Alqods students, the incentive prizes for 45 deserving students in Alqods schools under the Directorate of Education and Teaching as well as Al-Quds University for the year 2020-2021.

He also reported on the launch of the Environmental Clubs and Youth Education project and awareness campaigns on the importance of preserving the environment and ecological balance in Al-Quds.

According to Mr. Belqasmi, the same was done with the launch in 2021 of the first tranche of the emergency reconstruction program of Al-Quds, the development of a social and humanitarian action plan for the year 2022 and the creation of a center dedicated to research and scientific studies aimed at shedding light on the human, social and economic aspects of the holy city, as well as a club for Al-Quds children, in charge of promoting activities for children and adolescents and opening young people up to new technologies.

This year, the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Al-Sharif agency established the “Al-Quds Al-Sharif” award for journalistic excellence in development media, he continued.

This distinction responds to the desire of the agency and its partners to promote awareness among young people for the Palestinian cause as well as their interest in issues of humanitarian and social development in the Palestinian city.

He also recalled the signing in 2019 by HM King Mohammed VI, Chairman of the Al Qods Committee, and Pope Francis, of the “Al Qods Call” aimed at preserving and promoting the specific multi-religious character, the spiritual dimension and the particular identity of the holy city.

In addition to Mr. Belqasmi, the Moroccan delegation included Messrs. Hassan Tariq, Moroccan ambassador to Tunis, Jamal Eddine El Aloua, secretary general of the national commission for education, culture and sciences and Ben Taleb Mohamed, legal adviser and head of the education, culture, waqfs and Islamic affairs division at the general secretariat of the government.
