Passengers were injured when the bus left the road and fell on its side.

According to preliminary data, twenty-six people were brought to hospitals due to injuries.

Firefighters arrived and found the bus lying on its side. The rescuers helped the passengers of the bus to get out, and they freed the two trapped people and handed them over to the medics.

The accident occurred when the driver lost control of the bus and it overturned after going off the road.
There is a safety island in this part of the road. According to unconfirmed data, she could have contributed to the accident – the bus could have run over her, or she could have gone out of control when the driver, who noticed her too late, tried to go around her.
The exact causes of the accident will be determined during the pre-trial investigation.
The condition of the two injured is serious
The health condition of two persons injured in the accident is serious.

“One victim has been taken to Kaunas clinics. The condition of the other seriously injured passenger is also serious,” said G. Navickaitė.
A little later, four more bus passengers were transported to Kaunas clinics for further treatment.
“Currently, 5 persons with more serious injuries have been brought to Kaunas clinics, but this number is constantly changing,” informed Ieva Jankauskienė, a representative of Kaunas clinics, to the ELTA news agency on Monday evening.
People injured in the accident were initially taken to Šakių and Jurbarkas hospitals.
The bus driver was also brought to the Jurbarkas hospital. He was sober.
This bus was mostly used by citizens of Latvia and Russia, only one citizen of Lithuania was among the passengers.
The administration of the Šakiai district municipality took care of the uninjured passengers of the bus that had an accident.
The passengers were taken to Gelgaudiškis special school, where they were given accommodation and food.
