Through a statement, the Attorney General’s Office of Nuevo León confirmed the death of Griselda Mayela, reported missing since 2020 in San Nicolás de los Garza, Nuevo León.
After skeletal remains were found in the San Juan neighborhood in the municipality of Santiago on April 22, specialized authorities subjected them to tests to identify them.
After carrying out forensic and DNA studies, the Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that they belonged to the body of Griselda, who was last seen on August 11, 2020.

What happened to Griselda?
According to reports, Mayela, 42, was last seen leaving her home in the Del Lago neighborhood in San Nicolás. She was traveling to work at the Center for Research and Advanced Studies in Social Anthropology (CIESAS), Northeast Regional Unit, where she was a technical secretary for a master’s degree.
On the day she disappeared, she was wearing a white blouse with a rainbow on the collar and sleeves, as well as black shorts with white stripes and a grey backpack.
In her absence, her family filed a complaint with the authorities and two months later, co-workers called a press conference where they announced that Griselda was suffering from violence, so members of the (CIESAS) asked the State Attorney General’s Office to redouble efforts to locate her.
However, having received no response from the Attorney General’s Office, Maya Alejandra Hernández Álvarez, the victim’s daughter, along with family and friends, demanded justice on the steps of the Government Palace, considering it unfair not to have received a response from the governor, as had happened in other high-profile cases.
Now, 4 years after her disappearance in San Nicolás, Nuevo León, authorities confirmed the discovery of the remains of Griselda Mayela Álvarez.

However, on the account “Where is Mayela Álvarez”, a statement was published in which the daughter of the victim of forced disappearance denounced the grievance of the Nuevo León Prosecutor’s Office against the family of Griselda Mayela.
This is because the authorities are accused of informing the press of the discovery of a human remain “supposedly compatible” with the genetic profile of Griselda Mayela Álvarez, without the family’s consent to disclose the information.
According to the document, just a few hours earlier, on August 15, Maya was summoned by the authorities, who, without any tact, informed her of the discovery of the remains and of an upcoming search.

“I was never informed that the Prosecutor’s Office would make the news public to the press,” said Mayela Álvarez’s daughter, who stressed that the news spread quickly, and that she did not have time to notify the victim’s mother and sister of the discovery.
“Once again, the Attorney General’s Office in Nuevo Leon has shown contempt for our persons, feelings and rights. Their actions offend us and violate our right to receive information first, process it, verify it and define how and when to communicate it to society.”
