Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur drew at the end of the first Premier League matchday. However, player Rodrigo Bentancur apparently suffered a serious injury.
The injury-related substitution of Rodrigo Bentancur overshadowed the Premier League match between Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur (1:1) on Monday evening. The 27-year-old was substituted in the 78th minute after an aerial challenge.
The midfielder had to be treated on the pitch for a good five minutes. A stretcher was ready for transport, as was a breathing mask. A photo available to t-online shows a bleeding cut on Bentancur’s forehead. The player may also have been unconscious for a short time. The stadium fell silent in concern for the player, but fortunately Bentancur was still responsive on the pitch. Nothing is known about the nature of the injury so far.
Pedro Porro had put the visitors ahead after 29 minutes, Jamie Vardy scored the deserved equaliser in the 57th minute for the promoted team, who would have deserved to win in the closing stages. Former international Timo Werner came on for Brennan Johnson in the 78th minute, but provided little impetus in the final minutes of the game.
Manchester City successfully started its mission to defend its Premier League title on Sunday thanks to Erling Haaland. The exceptional Norwegian striker led the English champions to a 2-0 (1-0) victory at Chelsea FC and scored his 91st goal in his 100th competitive match for City. Pep Guardiola’s team is aiming for its fifth championship title in a row.
On Saturday, Brighton’s new coach Fabian Hürzeler celebrated a brilliant debut in a 3-0 win at Everton FC. Arsenal FC (2-0 against Wolverhampton) and Liverpool FC (2-0 against newly promoted Ipswich) also won their games. Niclas Füllkrug, on the other hand, suffered a defeat in a 1-2 home defeat against Aston Villa. The international player was substituted on in the second half when the score was 1-1.
