Ji Jin-hee is showing off an unprecedented acting transformation as Byun Moo-jin, a building owner who appears in front of his family for the first time in 11 years in the JTBC weekend drama ‘Family X Melo’ (written by Kim Young-yoon/directed by Kim Da-ye), which is currently airing every week.
Thanks to Ji Jin-hee’s passionate performance, ‘Family X Melo’ not only surpassed 5% in nationwide paid household viewership ratings according to Nielsen Korea in just two episodes since it aired, but it also ranked 6th in the Netflix Global TOP 10 TV (non-English speaking) category and in the upper ranks of the domestic TOP 10. It was also ranked 5th in the topicality of drama cast members recently announced by Good Data Corporation’s official platform Fundex, a K-content competitiveness analysis specialist.
Episode 4, which aired on the 18th, depicted Byun Moo-jin starting a full-scale war with his daughter Byun Mi-rae (Son Na-eun), who is blocking his courtship of his X-wife Geum Ae-yeon (Kim Ji-soo). Moo-jin signed a memorandum with Mirae, stating that he would hand over the villa if he could not reunite with Ae-yeon, and he began to work hard to win Ae-yeon’s heart. However, whenever Moo-jin tried to ask her out on a date, Mirae kept interfering, which made him increasingly frustrated, and even at the flower shop he went to buy flowers for Ae-yeon, he ran into Mirae, who was trying to buy flowers for Ae-yeon, which once again ignited his competitive spirit and made people laugh.
On the other hand, the mystery of Mujin’s past became more and more mysterious. Aeyeon, who asked about the meaning of his meaningful words, “You don’t even know what I did to get here!”, just stared at him, making her more curious. Also, Mujin, who visited the former landlord’s ossuary with a complicated expression, felt an inexplicable bitterness, which amplified the mystery.
Although he was such an unpredictable character, he eventually revealed his various emotions that were hidden inside him, adding to the tension. Moo-jin screamed fiercely at the police station to find Ae-yeon who had gone missing, and when he found out that the culprit who had created this situation was the owner of a meat restaurant, he became furious, showing a fierce side that we had never seen before.
On the other hand, his voice, as he sincerely confessed to Mirae, who was having a hard time, “I made you grow up early at an age when you should be acting up, and I’m sorry for making you feel this heavy burden even now, it’s all my fault. I’m sorry,” was filled with regret, sadness, and gratitude toward his family, which moved viewers. Then, as Mu-jin held back his tears and calmly said, “Don’t worry, you don’t look like me at all,” the sight of him calmly saying, “Don’t worry, you don’t look like me at all,” made his hurt feelings even more vivid, bringing tears to the eyes of viewers.
In this way, Ji Jin-hee proved his acting prowess, as expected from ‘Jin-hee Ji’, by delicately portraying the complex inner self of Byun Moo-jin in ‘Family X Melo’. He, who always gave off an aura of mystery with his unreadable expression, even exploded with chilling anger, foreshadowing Moo-jin’s deep affection for Ae-yeon. He even fully captured Moo-jin’s crumbling feelings with the empty expression and trembling voice he showed in front of his daughter who still doesn’t think of him as a father, drawing admiration with his detailed expressiveness according to the character’s emotional changes. With his wide range of acting skills, the character of Byun Moo-jin is drawing more attention with each episode, and people are looking forward to his future activities.
‘Family X Melo’ airs every Saturday and Sunday at 10:30 PM.
