Gabon: SAEEG calls on CTRI to apply the law without hesitation against SEEG fraudsters – AGP

Libreville, August 19, 2024 (AGP) – The Union of Water and Electricity Agents of Gabon (SAEEG), affiliated to the Gabonese Trade Union Confederation (COSYGA), drew the attention of the Committee for the Transition and Restoration of Institutions (CTRI) and its Government to the catastrophic situation currently prevailing within the Energy and Water Company of Gabon (SEEG), during a press briefing on Monday, August 19, 2024.

At the heart of a major financial scandal, estimated at several billion CFA francs, SEEG filed a complaint against unknown persons, and the investigation conducted by the military in power which revealed the existence of a parallel network for the sale of prepaid electricity tickets, orchestrated by SEEG partners, continues to reveal the extent of this embezzlement of funds.

Worried about the colossal financial losses for the company, already in difficulty, the workers of the Société d’énergie et d’eau du Gabon (SEEG), members of the Syndicat des agents de l’eau et de l’électricité du Gabon (SAEEG), demand from the CTRI and its Government that “the two investigations opened be brought to a conclusion and that the perpetrators of these acts be severely punished according to the texts and laws in force.”

The statement read by the head of the legal department of Cosyga, Firmin Baltazard Etombandendji, denounces the computer fraud orchestrated for several years by executives of this company and a service provider on the supply of Edan units, thus plunging agents, consumers and workers into total incomprehension.

“The existence of this parallel network creates an alarming financial deficit estimated at several billion CFA francs. This situation could justify delays, non-payment or suspension of certain internal benefits for the benefit of staff,” deplored Firmin Baltazard Etombandendji.

Furthermore, the unionists call for the application of laws, and the necessary sanctions, as is often seen with regard to agents. “We regularly witness the application of disciplinary sanctions, the dismissal of low-level agents who have committed reprehensible acts. In these different cases, the hand of the general director does not tremble,” he castigated.
