If customers have a reasonable need for accommodation as a result of power outages lasting 72 hours or more, they will be reimbursed for the associated costs at a flat rate per night. Proof of reservation with dates and payment receipt or bank transfer statement will be required to support them. True, these costs will not be compensated if an application for compensation for losses related to the use of the generator is submitted at the same time.

“In compensating direct losses, maximum limits have been set: up to EUR 50 can be compensated for spoiled food; after purchasing or renting a generator, the amount of damages amounts to 36 EUR per day, fuel – 69 EUR per day. We will also compensate losses for accommodation – EUR 52 per day. It is important to emphasize that the maximum amount of compensation for direct losses will reach 200 EUR”, says ESO public relations representative Rasa Juodkienė.

Claims for damages can also be submitted for electrical appliances damaged during the removal of the effects of the storm, which are not subject to the maximum amount limit.

According to R. Juodkienė, the rules for the supply and use of electricity provide that the amounts of compensation calculated according to the procedure established by VERT are included in the direct losses incurred by the customer.

“ESO’s activities are strictly regulated, so we must comply with the established rules and regulations. If a customer whose electricity supply was interrupted for more than 72 hours will be compensated for, for example, EUR 200 in direct losses, and the compensation calculated after the VERT decision on the presence of an emergency for the untimely renewal of electricity supply will amount to, for example, EUR 250, ESO will additionally pay the customer will pay EUR 50 compensation. The total amount to be paid to the client will be 250 EUR”, emphasizes R. Juodkienė.

The request for compensation must be submitted by the owner of the facility where the power supply was interrupted and it was restored later than 72 hours later. If there are two back-to-back outages during a storm and the customer has less than 6 hours of power between those outages, the time of both outages is added together and treated as a single outage.
