The Army Information and Public Relations Directorate (DIRPA) held a press conference this Friday, August 16, 2024 at the government spokesperson in Kaloum.
The head of DIRPA, Ansoumani Toumani Camara, announced the resumption of artistic and cultural activities of the Amazons of Guinea through its participation in the 16th edition of the International Military Music Festival in Russia.
This delegation of 30 people will rekindle the Guinean cultural flame from August 23.
“The revival of artistic and cultural activities was one of the demands of the transitional president. If yesterday we were at a level, we have fallen; we must return to this same level or exceed it. And one of Guinea’s glorious pasts is in the cultural field alongside the sporting past.
The army ballets are here today and can perform. Last year, they were the ones who hosted the cultural week in the garrisons. There are the Eagles of the police. That’s in terms of security. They received the necessary equipment (…). The Amazons of Guinea are the first women’s orchestra in Africa. I think that’s a source of pride for those who know the Amazons of Behanzin. Our musical Amazons are also these brave ladies of the national gendarmerie who, since their creation to date, have not given up so that culture within the Guinean Armed Forces can live and that influence is the final point,” announced Ansoumani Toumani Camara, DIRPA, accompanied by the Amazons of Guinea.
With the participation of only 3 countries on the African continent, DIRPA reassures of a military representation worthy of the name.
“With the relaunch of these activities, since we have all the partners who are there, the African countries which have their diplomatic representations here, often send the information back to their countries.
Russia is organizing the 16th edition of its International Military Music Festival. An invitation has been extended to the Amazones de Guinée to take part. And we are still the only exclusively female formation to take part in this festival which will take place from August 23 to September 1, 2024 on Red Square.
The delegation will soon leave Conakry to take part in this event. Among the nine countries present, there are only three from the African continent: Egypt, South Africa and Guinea.
Regarding the quality of the preparation, Ansoumani Toumani Camara reassures: “Regarding the level of preparation, I think that for two months, the women have been rehearsing at the level of Camayenne. And if it pleases God, tomorrow, there will be a final ceremony with the military authorities and the presentation of the flag to the orchestra. Because it is an international competition. It is the army that goes there. It is as if they are soldiers going to the front. They must go with the national flag which must be honored and return with the flag at the highest level.”
These Amazons of the Guinean army will take part in this festival from August 23 to September 1, 2024 at the expense of the organizing country, Russia.
