The Finance Committee of the Legislative Assembly approved an initiative that would benefit hundreds of families who have managed to recover their homes thanks to the effectiveness of the Territorial Control Plan.

This initiative aims to eliminate debts owed by the National Water and Sewer Administration (ANDA) due to homes that were seized by gang members.

“The violence and insecurity that gangs have exerted for decades in El Salvador forced thousands of families to abandon their homes, which were usurped by criminals. However, the effectiveness of the Territorial Control Plan has allowed them to recover their properties, but they have found water bills with high charges for consumption that they did not make,” the Legislative Assembly indicated.

According to ANDA, these cases have been registered in colonies such as La Campanera and La Margaritas, in Soyapango; the Altavista urbanization and the Italia District, in Tonacatepeque, as well as in the Valle del Sol, Popotlán and San Leonardo neighborhoods, in Apopa.

“We are going to reset the accounts of all the people who have recovered their homes in areas that had been occupied by gangs. People who have finally been able to return to their homes, who are already living there, want to legalize their status. The issue of water is a co-benefit of the success of the Territorial Control Plan,” said ANDA president Rubén Alemán.
