The 2024 edition of the Rock en Seine Festival is full of promises. At the heart of the Paris Paralympic Games, it opens in a unique way with American singer Lana Del Rey, and continues with an eclectic lineup.
Bonnie Banane, a singer-songwriter behind the album Nini (2024), will mix electro pop, punk, and even soul on Friday, August 23, at the Bosquet Stage of the Rock en Seine Festival. The event also hosts the Belgian rock band Ghinzu, who, after a ten-year break, celebrates the 20th anniversary of their album “Blow” on the Festival’s Grand Stage and announces the release of a new album in 2025.
“Nini” by Bonnie Banane
An actress in a previous life, Bonnie Banane shifted to music. “It’s the fact of doing a lot of theater that pushed me to do something else. Music at that moment was a form of freedom I granted myself” confides Bonnie Banane. Singing her compositions also represented a way to maneuver out of the obligation, as an actress, to perform others’ texts.
In “Nini,” Bonnie Banane conveys a desire to “destroy everything,” a particular energy that permeates the album.
The stage, a laboratory for Ghinzu’s rock
Even though Blow was created about twenty years ago, the pieces that Ghinzu plays in 2024 have a fresh sound: “we never play the exact same thing“. Furthermore, the new album, announced by the band’s leader John Stargasm, has taken its time and draws inspiration from this “storm” of the summer scene.

The Future of Music Festivals: A Glimpse into Evolving Trends
The 2024 edition of the Rock en Seine Festival promises an intriguing glimpse into the future of live music events, showcasing a rich tapestry of genres and an engaging lineup that reflects shifting audience preferences. As festivals pivot towards eclectic programming, the presence of global stars like Lana Del Rey signifies a growing trend of blending major acts with emerging talents from diverse backgrounds.
The Rise of Genre Fusion
Artists like Bonnie Banane, who seamlessly blends pop, electro, punk, and soul, illustrate a wider trend of genre fusion that is reshaping the music landscape. With audiences increasingly drawn to unique soundscapes that challenge traditional categorizations, festivals are responding by showcasing acts that defy easy classification. This shift not only enhances the overall festival experience but also fosters a sense of community among diverse musical influences.
Long-Awaited Comebacks and New Beginnings
The return of the Belgian rock band Ghinzu, after a decade-long hiatus, signals a growing trend of nostalgia in the music industry. As older bands celebrate milestone anniversaries—like the 20th anniversary of their album “Blow”—there’s a parallel push towards innovation, with new material on the horizon. This duality, where established acts revisit their roots while also moving forward, reflects a desire for continuity in an ever-evolving musical narrative.
Live Performance as a Canvas for Creativity
The notion of the stage as a “laboratory” for experimentation is becoming increasingly popular. Artists are now leveraging live performance not just to showcase polished tracks, but as a platform for artistic exploration and audience interaction. This trend transforms concerts into immersive experiences, as performers adjust their sets and deliver fresh renditions that resonate with the live moment, showcasing the dynamic nature of music in real-time.
Embracing Artistic Freedom
Bonnie Banane’s transition from acting to music underscores a broader movement towards personal expression in the creative arts. The freedom to craft one’s narrative without the constraints of external expectations is becoming more valued. Festivals that prioritize artists’ individuality will likely attract audiences who seek authenticity and connection in their live experiences.
New Soundscapes in the Festival Scene
The eclectic sounds found at festivals are not just reflective of current tastes but indicate potential future directions. Festivals that embrace innovation, from genre-blending performances to interactive audience experiences, are poised to capture the attention of modern music lovers. As artists continue to push the boundaries of creativity, the festival experience will evolve, making it an exciting time for both performers and fans alike.
