Canceled road projects have already cost more than 200 million euros

Despite the cancellation of several projects by Transport Minister Leonore Gewessler (Greens), high costs have already been incurred. According to Asfinag, the projects associated with the Lobau tunnel alone have already devoured 147 million euros. The ÖVP traffic spokesman is surprised after answering a parliamentary inquiry. But he emphasizes that the minister cannot cancel the Lobal tunnel, only delay it.

Almost 150 million euros have already been spent on the construction of the Lobau tunnel and the other parts of the planned eastern bypass in Vienna, which was canceled by Environment and Transport Minister Leonore Gewessler (Greens). This is now shown by the parliamentary response to a request from the ÖVP. It is also by far the largest item in all projects reviewed by the ministry. A total of 306 million euros has already been spent on the partially canceled road construction projects. This affects 22 projects from Burgenland to Vorarlberg.
