More about the short, its protagonists and creators

“James” tells the story of a young indigenous man who faces the loneliness and immensity of the city while fighting to maintain his happiness, his innocence and, above all, to avoid being abandoned in an urban environment that he finds overwhelming.

The cast of the short film is made up of Darwin y Erick Maldonadooriginally from the village of Chivarreto, in Totonicapán; and José Poz from Zunil, Quetzaltenango. Darvin, who has already worked on previous projects with director Andrés Rodríguez, brings his experience to the lead role. On the other hand, Erick and José Poz make their film debut with this production.

Filming took place in and around La Terminal, Zone 4 of Guatemala City. It is a production in Guatemala and Mexico, and its producers are Mario Estrada, Mauricio Escobar, Heidy Raymundo, Remi de Lojo and Marco Antonio Salgado.

About Guatemalan director Andrés Rodríguez

Andrés Rodríguez is a Guatemalan filmmaker with over 15 years of experience in the film industry. Rodríguez studied Film and TV at the Galileo University in Guatemala and has worked as a screenwriter, director and producer on several projects that highlight the reality of indigenous communities. His work has been presented at film festivals in Mexico, Switzerland and Ecuador.

Her debut feature, “Roza,” released in 2022, also had a prominent participation in international events. The project was awarded Best Feature Film at the Guanajuato International Film Festival and Rodríguez received the Best New Director award from the critics at the Vancouver Latin American Film Festival.
