The body of a 65-year-old man was detected floating in the early afternoon today, August 19, in the Bay of São Martinho do Porto South, in the municipality of Alcobaça, having been retrieved by a passerby, reported the National Maritime Authority (AMN).
The alert was received at 1:30 PM, reporting a swimmer in cardiac arrest, allegedly the victim of a heart attack.
“Upon arrival at the scene [by the competent authorities], it was confirmed that the victim, a 65-year-old man, had been pulled from the water by a passerby who was in the area,” explains the AMN in a statement.
Members of the Medical Emergency and Resuscitation Vehicle (VMER) began resuscitation maneuvers, but it was not possible to reverse the situation, and death was declared at the scene.
Also dispatched to the bay were members of the Nazaré Maritime Police Command, the “SeaWatch” project, and the Volunteer Firefighters of São Martinho do Porto.
