The Prosecutor’s Office in Varna is self-reporting the list of names of teachers distributed by the party “Vazrazhdane” – Varna, who have spoken out against the changes in the Law on Preschool and School Education. They prohibited the propaganda and popularization of “non-traditional sexual orientation” and “identification of gender identity other than biological” in schools, writes “Lex”.
Many teachers and non-governmental organizations spoke out against the changes, who wanted President Rumen Radev to veto the changes, but he did not.
Today, the “Vazrazhdane” organization in Varna published the names of 26 teachers on their Facebook page, demanding guarantees that these teachers will not have access to their children and calling on parents to seek explanations from the directors of the schools “where they are parasitizing the genders in question”.
The names of the teachers were taken from a petition against the changes in the law, which was initiated by Bulgarian language and literature teacher Boris Iliev from NPMG, who has already announced that he is suspending public access to the signatories to avoid abuse.
Later, the publication of “Vazrazhdane” disappeared from Facebook. Nevertheless, sharp reactions followed from the Ministry of Education and Science (MES), the Bulgarian Helsinki Committee (BHC) and politicians.
“The Bulgarian teacher has always been free, awake and progressive, and this has made our children and nation free. By preserving this freedom, we preserve our own values, morals, and future. Therefore, in the Bulgarian education system, no form of discrimination and repression against teachers, students and parents will be allowed,” says the position of the Ministry of Education and Culture.
“Vazrazhdane” took the liberty of publishing a list of Varna teachers with a message calling for lynching. It called the teachers “parasites” because they expressed an opinion different from that of their party fuhrer. These teachers are against the school propaganda law, which in its current form leaves a wide field for human rights violations and deepens the fears of parents due to the spreading misinformation on the subject,” commented the former Prime Minister Academician Nikolay Denkov. The BHK reported, that they are ready to provide free legal aid to teachers and other school staff affected by the changes in the law.
Radoslav Lazarov, the spokesman of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Varna, explained to “Lex” that they had self-referred to the publications in the media and had created a file. It has already been distributed to a prosecutor, who, however, will get acquainted with the materials tomorrow and will assess whether there is evidence of a crime crime, as well as whether to initiate an investigation and for what crime, after which the materials can be sent to the district prosecutor’s office.
Meanwhile, “Vazrazhdane” continued its attacks on teachers in the same tone, with party leader Kostadin Kostadinov saying that they will file a report with the prosecutor’s office against more than 800 teachers, principals and school psychologists because they spoke out against the changes in the law.
“They don’t want to leave the system, no – they want the system to continue giving them the right to spread homosexual propaganda,” said Kostadinov and defended his fellow party members who released the list of teachers from Varna.
“This is a list of people who want to break the law. People who don’t want to follow the law, what do we call them? Criminals, of course. Are there any of you who would send your child to a school where a teacher is present, is managed by a principal, or has a school psychologist who has signed this signature?” Kostadinov said.
Stella Nikolova from DB also wrote a post on Facebook about the prosecutor’s file on the actions of PP “Vazrazhdane”.
“Dear Bulgarian citizens who value freedom and support Bulgarian teachers, I would like to inform you that the Varna District Prosecutor’s Office has opened a prosecutor’s file for the fascist overtures of the PP “Vazrazhdane”, Nikolova wrote on her Facebook profile.
