RFS won 2-1 (2-0) in the first match of the decisive round of the main tournament of the Europa League on Thursday.
“There is not much to say. I am proud of my team, of how we looked today,” said Moroz after the success. “The first minutes were difficult and it was important to adapt to the rhythm and quality. We did it well, although the opponent had one chance in the first minutes [gūt vārtus].”
The head coach of RFS did not hide that he expected APOEL to go to the field with a slightly different composition, which caused complications at the beginning of the match. “We had to spend a lot of time figuring out what was going on and what areas to cover,” Moroz said. “The main thing was that we did not allow the opponent to be near our penalty area.”
“Of course, this was a great evening, a great victory,” the head coach of the Latvian champion did not hide. “There could have been a different result, but in general I think it is fair and natural.”
Also, Moroz admitted that the return match against will be very difficult. “A result like this guarantees us that the stadium will be full or close to it,” said the coach. “I know APOEL ultras very well and it will really be a football atmosphere. The weather will also be different, but in general it doesn’t bother us much.”
The return match will take place in Nicosia on August 29, and the winners will enter the main tournament of the Europa League in the sum of two games, while the losers of the European Cup will continue in the main tournament of the Conference League.
Last year, RFS competed in the UEFA European Conference League tournament, where they reached the second round, where they defeated the Azerbaijan club Masazir “Sabah” 1:4.
