A key meeting for the future of Hass avocado in Colombia was held in Abejorral, Antioquia. The Colombian Agricultural Institute (ICA) and Corpohass brought together 37 actors in the productive chain of this fruit, in a day aimed at strengthening Antioquia’s position as the main exporter of Hass avocado in the country.
The event focused on a phytosanitary technical panel, where ICA experts offered an exhaustive analysis of the current state of the sector. During the day, work plans for export were discussed and updated, strategies for pest prevention and control were addressed, and crucial tools were provided so that producers can comply with the strict quality and food safety standards demanded by international markets. The optimization of the use of the SimplifICA application was also a prominent topic on the agenda, underlining the importance of technology in the modernization of the sector.
Antioquia, which accounts for 60% of the national production of Hass avocado, has seen this fruit become a vital source of income for thousands of families. in the region. So far this year, more than 36,000 tons of Hass avocado have been exported from this department, with the main destinations being the European Union and the United States. This success has not only benefited the local economy, but has also helped position Colombia as a significant competitor in the international market.

«Our goal is to accompany Hass avocado producers at every stage of the process, from production to export.“, said Natalia Sánchez Arcila, head of registration of vegetables for fresh export and surveillance of quarantine pests at the ICA branch in Antioquia. Sánchez Arcila stressed the importance of the technical roundtable as a pillar to strengthen the production chain and ensure that Colombian avocados continue to be recognized for their high quality in international markets.
