Guttormsen Shines at Diamond League Despite Injury Concerns

by time news

There were mixed feelings in the Guttormsen camp after a strong Diamond League performance.

– First and foremost, I am very satisfied with my jumping. It’s really good, and I am showing that I am as good as I believe I am, says the main character himself to VG.

Guttormsen will not know more about what happened to his thigh until Thursday when he made his last attempt at 5.92 meters.

– It felt a bit tight. You never know how bad it is. Now I am treating it as if it is a serious injury to be on the safe side. But I am not borrowing trouble from tomorrow. It’s hard to know right now, he says.

Met the requirements

Wednesday’s performance gave him a shared 3rd place along with Kurtis Marschall and Ernest John Obiena. He also met the requirement for next year’s World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, reports NRK.

Guttormsen smoothly cleared 5.35, 5.62, 5.72, and 5.82 at the Diamond League meet in Switzerland. The first failure came when he attempted 5.92.

He also missed his second attempt, while he aborted the third. Now time will tell if he was injured.

Favorite victory

Until Wednesday, Guttormsen had 5.80 as his season best. He set that when he finished eighth in the finals at the Paris Olympics.

The 25-year-old has a personal record of 6.00 meters from March 2023.

Armand Duplantis won the DL competition as expected after clearing 6.00 on his first attempt, and later raised it to 6.15. The Swede was recently crowned Olympic champion and simultaneously set a world record for the ninth time by clearing 6.25.

In Lausanne, there was no new record chase for Duplantis.
