On the 23rd, the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) announced, “Through the special planning program ‘Beautiful Person, Lee Sun-kyun,’ we will screen six of his representative works and also hold a special talk.”

Additionally, Lee Sun-kyun was selected as the winner of this year’s Korea Cinema Award.

The Korean Film Achievement Award is given to filmmakers who have contributed to elevating the status of Korean films and their global growth. Lee Sun-kyun, who has received much love from film fans at home and abroad through various works, will be selected and the award will be presented at the opening ceremony.

This special exhibition will present three of Lee Sun-kyun’s early works that established him as an outstanding film actor. In “Paju” (2009), for which he won the Best Actor Award at the 2010 Las Palmas International Film Festival, he was praised for his delicate portrayal of a dual character who has a sense of mission from an activist background but also falls in love with his sister-in-law. “Our Sunhi” (2013), a hot topic at the Locarno Film Festival directed by Hong Sang-soo that showcases Lee Sun-kyun’s energetic performance, and “A Hard Day’s End” (2014), a Cannes Film Festival Director’s Fortnight film in which he plays an immoral detective and shows off intense action and tense acting, will also be screened.

The drama ‘My Mister’, which gave deep comfort and emotion to many with its calm and warm acting, can also be seen on the screen through this special exhibition. ‘My Mister’ received rave reviews when it was aired in 2018 and remains a life drama for many viewers to this day. Out of the total 16 episodes, 5 episodes will be screened, selecting episodes that allow viewers to feel the emotions and breathing of Lee Sun-kyun and Park Dong-hoon, who he played, as if they were a movie.

You can also watch Bong Joon-ho’s ‘Parasite’ (2019), which made Lee Sun-kyun the top actor by becoming the first Korean to win the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival and sweeping four Academy Awards, as well as his last work, ‘The Land of Happiness’ (2024), in which he plays an upright soldier involved in the assassination of the president.

Meanwhile, the 29th Busan International Film Festival will be held at the Busan Cinema Center for ten days from October 2nd to October 11th.
