/ Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir apologized to US President Joe Biden on Tuesday on behalf of his son, who mocked the president on social media and indicated that he had dementia.

“It is important to raise awareness about Alzheimer’s disease, which is a major cause of cognitive decline and dementia in the elderly,” Shafael Ben-Gvir wrote on his X account, over a picture of Biden.

The 81-year-old US president is seeking re-election amid a focus by political rivals and voters on his age.

Later, his father posted on the same platform and wrote that his “beloved son made a grave mistake and he strongly rejects it.”

“The United States is our great friend and President Biden is a friend of Israel,” the minister, who lives in a West Bank settlement, added in Hebrew.

According to Ben Gvir, there is no place for such “insulting” comments… I apologize for my son’s words.

The Minister of National Security had criticized the US President for the insufficient aid provided by Washington to the Hebrew state in its war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

Ben-Gvir’s comments came after Washington imposed sanctions on four settlers in a rare move amid a surge in violence against Palestinian civilians in the West Bank, which Israel has occupied since 1967.
