A necroscopic examination has already been carried out on the body which confirmed that there were no injuries. Biological material was removed for laboratory tests. Lourenço Talamonte, a section delegate from Botucatu (SP) who is responsible for the case, stated that the main suspect of the police is a cocaine overdose. The politician’s brother had already confirmed the use of the drug to the coroner.
The drug was found in the bathroom of Machado’s house. “Since he is a mayoral candidate, there was speculation that it could be a political crime, but that is not the case. He had no signs of a violent death. The person had blood on the body, but this would have been from a fall from a height and a heart attack due to the overdose. This is our main suspicion, but we will wait for the reports”, explains the delegate. Until tests are completed, the official cause of death has not been determined.
Machado was the youngest councilor in Itatinga. In a post on social media, a team of Podemos councilors announced his death and asked for prayers for the family. The City Council lamented the incident in a statement. “In this time of pain, we extend our condolences to his family and friends and wish him the best,” says the statement released by the council.
