Opening of the 12th edition of the “Voices of Women” festival in Tetouan

During the opening ceremony of this edition, organized under the High Patronage of HM King Mohammed VI, a tribute was paid to the President of the National Human Rights Council (CNDH), Amina Bouayach, to the President of the Regional Tourism Council of Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima, Rkya Alaoui, to the journalist Zoubaida Fathi and to the President of the Association “Sanade” protecting the elderly and people with mental disorders, Naïma Bouhati, in addition to the two cooperatives “Vegetaland” and “Aghssane”.

The opening ceremony of the festival, which returns this year after a break imposed by the pandemic, was also marked by a musical show combining flamenco and Andalusian music, offered by the Moroccan artist Zineb Afilal and the Spanish group Maria Olé Flamenco.

In a statement to MAP, Karima Benyaich, president of the association “Voix de Femmes”, organizer of the event, indicated that this edition, which takes place from August 22 to 24, celebrates the artistic creativity of women under the theme “Women, essential partners for lasting change”.

This theme is in line with the High Royal Guidelines, aimed at promoting the rights and condition of Moroccan women, recognizing their crucial role in the sustainable development and modernization of Moroccan society, she noted.

It also reflects the festival’s vocation to highlight high-level local and international female artists, and to convey the values ​​of solidarity, openness and tolerance, she added.

The festival, following its approach and philosophy since its first edition, also pays particular attention to social action, continued Ms. Benyaich, noting that this edition will be marked by the organization of a “Health for All” caravan for more than 120 beneficiaries in vulnerable situations, the launch of several solidarity actions for the benefit of women detained at the Tetouan penitentiary center, and a donation presentation for the benefit of the residents of the Sidi Frej Center.

The festival continues on Friday in Tetouan, with a concert by artists Hajar Fezzaka and Hind Ziadi, in addition to the Spanish group Gipsy Queens Generation, while the closing night, scheduled for Saturday, will see the participation of Tetouan artist Youssra Derdabi and Moroccan-Iraqi singer Shatha Hassoun, to close with a concert by Lebanese singer Carole Samaha.
