Napa Between July 15 and 18 of this year, technicians from the Ministries of Agriculture and Livestock, Environment, Water and Ecological Transition, and the Payment for Results project of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), toured several sectors of the province of Napo to continue with the identification of strategic agro-tourism points that will be part of the guayusa route.
This is after the aforementioned institutions socialized the initiative to 50 producers representing various organizations in the province on May 15.
Audiovisual producers and communicators also made up the team that visited several places, with the aim of collecting audiovisual material for the creation of promotional products. The aim is to advance in the task of promoting the new agricultural production route and fostering agrotourism.
A meeting was also held to socialize with the province’s tourism operators. The objective was to create synergies between the tourism operators and local producers, thus strengthening the tourism offer and promoting economic development through agrotourism.
In order to link the actors that promote governance and territorial public policy, several representatives of the decentralized autonomous governments of the province also learned about the initiative “Guayusa Agroproductive Route in the Province of Napo”. This will allow collective efforts to focus on promoting the agro-tourism route and guarantee its sustainability.
This collaboration between institutions is a crucial step towards the sustainable development of the region, benefiting producers, tourism operators and local communities.
Daniela Jurado, MAG District Director in Napo, mentioned that the idea is to exchange knowledge and experiences from each of the sectors and the work of the institutions to nourish the design of the route, with the sole objective of guaranteeing the real development of the producers and communities.
“We have several years of experience in tourist routes that have left us with lessons and concerns, which serve as a contribution. We will gladly do everything we can contribute from the Chamber of Tourism,” said Marco Miño, delegate to this meeting for the chamber.
Javier Viracucha, from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), highlighted the efforts to strengthen the country’s public policies. Viracucha pointed out the importance of creating links between conservation, production and tourism, which would allow for the creation of alternative income and improve livelihoods in productive areas.
“Our goal is to create and form a network that will better position the province of Napo, both locally, nationally and internationally, with guayusa as its central axis,” explained Viracucha.
Guayusa has been selected for its relevance in three key aspects: its cultural value, its contribution to food and its potential as a tourist attraction. With these elements, UNDP seeks to promote a major tourist and productive route that highlights the wealth of the province of Napo, thus benefiting local communities.
