The Italian actor Franco Nero received the Medal of Honor with a ribbon from the mayor of Varna. The award was presented to him by Blagomir Kotsev minutes before the opening of the 32nd edition of the “Love is Madness” International Film Festival, which begins today in the seaside city.

Nero is visiting Varna for the first time, Mayor Blagomir Kotsev said at the award ceremony. He noted that this is the oldest film festival in the country and thanked the organizers for their efforts to keep it going and for inviting Franco Nero, with whom generations of viewers grew up watching quality cinema. “It is a great honor for me to see him live today,” said the mayor.

Nero will also receive the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Love Is Madness Film Festival. “I am almost halfway through my career and I continue to be flooded with offers from all over the world. I am still a worker on the battlefield,” the actor also said.

The organizer of the “Love is Madness” film festival this year is the “Kinofest” company. As always, 12 films participate in the competition program, with French and Italian films predominating. There is also a Bulgarian-Ukrainian co-production. These are premiere titles for Bulgaria, coming from the festivals in Cannes, Berlin, San Sebastian, and the Varna audience is the first to see them, said festival director Prof. Alexander Grozev.

Love Is Madness opens today with Italy’s There’s Still Tomorrow, winning the national Donatello David Award for Best Picture, Director, Original Screenplay and Actress. The closing of the official program is on August 30 with the film “Bolero”, writes BTA.

The films in the competition will be judged by a three-member international jury. The director and producer Momchil Karamitev is the chairman, his colleagues are the directors Ahmet Boyajioglu from Turkey and Isti Madaras from Hungary, who won the award of the Union of Bulgarian Filmmakers at last year’s festival.
