Hoteliers threaten to protest and block the Varna-Burgas road because of high electricity prices. The accounts of some of them have jumped between two and three times.

According to hoteliers, tensions are about to escalate in the height of the season due to the postponement of the implementation of the electricity compensation measure for non-domestic subscribers.

After an emergency meeting was held in Sunny Beach, the Acting Minister of Tourism Evtim Miloshev promised that the aid would reach the businesses within two months.

“This is not just about the hoteliers. This is about the entire business in Bulgaria, but we are the most affected because we work in a 24-hour mode. During the day, energy is comparatively cheaper, while in the evening after 18:00 it becomes several times more expensive,” said Radostin Dachev from the Hotelier’s Club in Nessebar.

“The bills are overwhelming for us as they are not intended as an expense. In the active season, all this came to us like a cold shower and we can’t cope if we don’t get help,” Elena Andonova from the Tourism Business Association told bTV categorically.

“The EC notification is expected to be within two months. Funds have been secured, contracts have been concluded, assistance is provided on a monthly basis – in the form of correcting and compensating electricity bills,” explained Evtim Miloshev, Acting Minister of Tourism.
