Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aguila Saleh, discussed with the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Acting Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, Stephanie Khoury, developments in the situation in Libya, especially with regard to the latest developments in the Central Bank of Libya.
The two sides stressed, in a meeting held today at the Dome, the need to calm the situation in a way that ensures that the work of the “most important financial institution in the country is not negatively affected,” and that the formation of the Central Bank’s Board of Directors should begin in accordance with the applicable legislation, according to what was reported by the Council’s spokesman, Abdullah Balhaq.
According to Blihaq, the two sides stressed the need for more efforts and endeavors from various parties to resume the political process, leading to an agreement to unify the executive authority and form a unified government to proceed with organizing presidential and parliamentary elections as soon as possible.
For his part, the Speaker of the House of Representatives stressed the need to continue cooperation and communication with the UN mission and the international community, and the House of Representatives’ commitment to the political agreement and the outcomes of the 6+6 Committee and everything that would end the political division and achieve presidential and parliamentary elections.
In return, Khoury confirmed her continuous and serious efforts to rebuild trust between the various parties by bringing viewpoints closer together.
