New Delhi: Shikhar Dhawan has decided to retire from international and domestic cricket. He announced his retirement by posting an emotional video on social media early in the morning of 24 August. This left-handed batsman, famous as ‘Gabbar’, was out of the team for a long time. After the arrival of young openers like Shubman Gill, his return to the team seemed difficult. There is currently no update on whether he will play IPL or not. Shikhar Dhawan, who is almost 39 years old, played ODI cricket for India for the first time in 2010, after which he got a chance to debut in T20 and then Test format.Gabbar’s bat won’t roar anymore
Current captain Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan opened the innings for the Indian team together for many years. Both were famous for giving a stormy start to the team. Shikhar Dhawan surprised the selectors by scoring the fastest Test century by a debutant player while making his debut on the Australia tour. Dhawan, a resident of Delhi, was an aggressive batsman who was famous for destroying bowlers. Dhawan, who created a new style statement with his curved mustache, will always be remembered for his signature style of hitting his thighs after catching a ball.
Benefit from Sehwag and Gambhir’s poor form
He was the Player of the Tournament in the 2003-04 Under-19 World Cup by scoring 505 runs at an average of 84.16 with three centuries. After this, Dhawan’s performance in the Ranji Trophy was not very good. After a disappointing performance in the IPL and five ODIs and good performances by the Test openers, it seemed that Dhawan would be confined to domestic cricket and T20 leagues, but luck changed and the form of both Sehwag and Gambhir suddenly fell badly, after which 27-year-old Dhawan got a chance and he never looked back.

IPL career is also stormy
Shikhar Dhawan is the first player to score back-to-back centuries in the IPL. Dhawan holds the record for hitting the most fours in the IPL. He is only behind Virat Kohli in terms of total runs. Dhawan won the IPL with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in 2016.
Apart from Sunrisers Hyderabad, Shikhar Dhawan has played for Delhi Daredevils (DD) and Delhi Capitals (DC), Deccan Chargers, Mumbai Indians (MI) and Punjab Kings (PBKS). Dhawan has also captained both Punjab Kings and SRH.
